Note that I'm not talking about EQ or room correction here (these have merit), but things like different resamplers and filters and the like.ĭigital audio, especially in the last few years, is subject to all kinds of snake oil and unsupported claims by manufacturers of boxes and software. Most people aren't going to be able to tell the difference with any of this stuff in blind test unless the filter or DSP is applying some kind of extreme processing that's very obvious. My DAC has a bunch of different filters available for example, and I have a number of different DSPs I can download and use with the software I use so the options are vast. Others still are very gimmicky effects I have no personal interest in. Some DSPs don't do much to the sound and the differences are very subtle. They can be very useful in a digital system for EQing headphones and speakers, for example, particularly if you have measurements on hand of your particular model. You'll have to try DSPs for yourself and decide if you need them or not. Click to expand.DSPs (the concept) are not exclusive to Roon.
